Wife will contest WPC election under UNP ticket, but he will stay firm – Sellasamy
Acting Posts Minister M. S. Sellasamy responding to criticism of his wife contesting for another party, said it had nothing to do with him and he would continue to serve the Government of Mahinda Rajapaksa.
However, he told The Island yesterday that he totally rejected the mud slinging campaign by his opponents connecting him and his wife.
"It has come to my notice that a smear campaign is being carried on by some interested parties around the country with regard to my wife Vellamahal Sellasamy contesting the Western Provincial Council election under the ticket of the United National Party. An attempt is thereby made to tarnish my political image," he said.
He said having entered the political arena under stewardship of late S. Thondaman he had been in active politics both under the Ceylon Workers Congress and UNP.
However, he said after the assumption of Presidentship of Mahinda Rajapaksa, his humanitarian outlook on the Indian Tamils of the Hill Country which is in line with his thinking drew him closer to Rajapaksa.
"The Sinhalese-Tamil unity and the integrity of the nation are being rebuilt by him today and there is no alternative leader to charter it on its correct course today. This is my candid opinion irrespective of whatever political view my wife holds," Sellasamy said.
