Arjuna says he will be next sports minister

Former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Arjuna Ranatunga yesterday said that he would be the next sports minister.

Ranatunga, told The Island that he was most suited for the position.

Asked when the appointment would be made, he replied "very soon. I am the best person for the job".

Questioned about his views on the hiccup’s that the current Cricket Interim Committee was faced with, Ranatunga said "I do not wish to comment, since I am out of it".

Ranatunga and Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge, have had a running battle over various issues, culminating in Ranatunga being removed from the post of Interim Committee Chairman.

Ranatunga alleges that Lokuge has entered into two lop sided television deals totalling US$ 71 million, not beneficial to Sri Lanka Cricket.
