India flags off marathon elections

NEW DELHI (SANA): The voting for 543 seats in the Indian elections will take place in five phases from Thursday (yesterday) to 13 May. The result will be announced on Saturday 16 May.

A total of 714 millions voters would cast their vote during in the general elections.

The first of phase of the elections will be held in 124 constituencies of 17 states including Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Kerala, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshwadeep.

It is pertinent to mention that 128 candidates, of 18 political parties including Congress and BJP, have Court cases registered against them. Of these, 84 have been charged with murder, kidnapping and non-consensual sexual harassment. 28 have been charged with robbery and kidnapping.

According to the Wall Street Journal, only two percent Muslims candidates are taking part in the elections.

Quoting the Centre for Media Studies (India), it stated that the candidates are trying to bribe the voters, also serving them with different flavors of wine and also providing young and beautiful girls to the businessmen to get their support in the elections.Phase II of the elections will be held in 141 constituencies on April 22 in Manipur and on April 23 in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Goa, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

Phase III will take place on April 30 in 107 constituencies including Bihar, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Jammu & Kashmir, Gujarat, Sikkim, Dadar and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu

Phase IV will take place on May 07 in 85 constituencies including Bihar, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Delhi.

Phase V will be held on May 13 in 86 constituencies including Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, Pondicherry and Uttar Pradesh. (Sananews.com)
