The UNP has called for the appointment of a Parliamentary
Select Committee to inquire into the threat of an imminent collapse of the
country’s financial institutions and a immediate solution found to
circumvent the threat.
UNP frontliner and Colombo District parliamentarian Ravi
Karunanayake said that a group of UNP MPs had addressed the Secretary
General of Parliament requesting the immediate appointment of a Select
Committee.

India today asked the Liberation
Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) to allow civilians trapped in the so-called
No Fire Zone (NFZ) to leave the area to secure locations, and requested
the Sri Lankan government to extend the two-day ceasefire so that
civilians can move out of the tiny NFZ to safe places.
