Former editor recalled from diplomatic post

Lalith Alahakoon, former editor of The Nation, has been recalled from the Sri Lankan High Commission in Islamabad with immediate effect.

Alahakoon, who received a diplomatic posting following representations made to the Government in the immediate aftermath of the abduction and assault on Keith Noyahr, the Deputy Editor of The Nation, is believed to have exchanged words with Sri Lankan High Commissioner Air Marshall Jayalath Weerakkody.

Well informed sources told The Island that the foreign Ministry has received a directive from Temple Trees to recall Alahakoon who took up this new assignment recently following the dispute between the two political appointees.

Sources said that there was no confirmation of the alleged dispute between the High Commissioner and Alahakoon. Sources added that heavy luggage belonging to the recalled diplomat and his family had left Colombo after the Government ordered him to return.
