Even if the number indicated on the polling card differs from that of the national identity card, the voter would be allowed to cast his or her vote if other details tally, Deputy Elections Commissioner W. Sumanasiri said.
Referring to complaints from certain Western Province voters that their NIC numbers indicated on the polling cards did not tally with that of the NICs in their possession, Sumanasiri said that it could not deprive a person from exercising his or her franchise.
"If all other details tally and if the polling agents have no objection the voter would be issued with a ballot pape," he said
He said that officials manning the polling booths have already been instructed about it.
