I am delighted to be afforded the opportunity to pen this message on the occasion of the most prestigious event in the motor sports calendar of Sri Lanka - the "FOXHILL SUPERCROSS." This annual event is being held for the 17th time.

The uniqueness of this event never ever wears out. It is rejuvenated every year with changes and modifications to both the track as well as competing vehicles. Every competing driver and rider dreams of registering a win on this track, for it carries prestige value and lasting recognition. This motivation brings out the best in the competitor and his machine. I know this, for I too was a competitor on this track and had the luck and fortune to register a win in 2003 in the Super-car event! It is a formidable task to achieve and an awesome feeling when you win!

I am most grateful to the Commandant and the hardworking rank and file of the academy for the tremendous work they put in to make this event a spectacular success. It is no easy task to undertake a venture such as this, amidst the daily chores associated with routine duties. But they somehow put their heart and soul to make this event a showpiece year in and year out which augers well for the discipline, ability and confidence within the academy and the military. It is even more so when activity in the North is at its peak. I thank the Commandant Sri Lanka Military Academy Brigadier M. K. D. Perera, RWP RSP for the keen interest and guidance provided right through to retain and further enhance the track and image of Fox Hill Supercross this year.

In this message, I take the liberty of mentioning the name of late Dayendra Samarasinghe who passed away in January this year. He was a dedicated founder member of SLARDAR, and he and Samarasinghe had officiated at this meet since its inauguration in 1993. We will miss his valuable advice and input at this year’s "Fox Hill."

Finally, I thank the competitors for their participation and wish them the very best of luck. I am aware, luck has to be combined with effort and determination to WIN at Fox Hill! We hope to see the best from the competitors and look forward to a good day of racing. I also wish to place on record the appreciation of the club for our dedicated officials, the spectators, media personnel and the sponsors for their continued support and assistance.
