KANDY – The dead body of a young woman whose neck was cut with a weapon was found abandoned by the roadside at Putuhapuwa on Saturday (18), Teldeniya police said.

The body was found at mid-day and the victim was later identified as Irangani Kulatunge (24) an external undergraduate of the University of Kelaniya.

The deceased was from a family living in Ambalagala Akkara Asuwa near Teldeniya.

Police are investigating to ascertain the cause of the alleged crime.

Meanwhile, rumours in the area are that the young woman received threats from some individuals including a police officer.

Further investigations are being conducted by IP Palihawada of Teldeniya police station on the directions of Kandy SSP Jayantha Gammanpila.

The post-mortem examination was held by Dr. Uplai Korosagalla, DMO on the orders of the Teldeniya Magistrate Hasitha Ponnamperuma.
