

Three persons held over killing of two children
Akmeemana police hunt for chief suspect
Police are looking for a 66-year-old man wanted in connection with the killing of Thanuja Irangani (10) and her brother Kavin Rashmika (one year 11 months) at Gonamulla, Nugekanda in the Akmeemana police area.
The villagers had captured the wife and two children of the suspect and handed them over to police.
They were reported missing last Wednesday (April 15). Police first found the body of Thanuja, a Grade Five student of Ratnajothi Vidyalaya, Bataduwa on Saturday evening (18). Police said that the body was found buried in a pit about 200 meters away from the victim’s home. Police also found a tri-cycle belonging to the victim in the same pit.
The victim’s legs had been tied together with a piece of cloth.
The body of the second child was found by police in a fertiliser bag early Sunday morning.
Police said that the children had disappeared at 11.30 a.m. last Wednesday. Police said that they had been knifed to death. Police said that there had been a long standing dispute between the two families.
