The first Youth Beach Volleyball Championship 2009, sponsored by Mt. Lavinia Hotel and conducted by the Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation and Sri Lanka Schools Volleyball Association was worked off on at the Mount Lavinia beach recently.

One of the aims of the championship was to select the beach volleyball players for the first Asian Youth Games to be held in Singapore from June 29 to July 7 this year.

The men’s championship was won by St. Anthony’s College, Thoduwawa while the first runner-up was Senanayake Central College, Madampe and the second runner-up was Davisamara College ‘D’.

The women’s championship was won by Wijayaba National School, Hungama, while Dhammissara Central College, Natthandiya and Dhammissara ‘B’ were first and second runners-up.
