The Local Government (Special Provisions) Amendment bill was passed in parliament yesterday. Also the Nation Building Tax (Amendment) bill was passed 85-31 with the JVP and TNA voting against. Of the only two UNP MPs who were in the Chamber when voting commenced MP Ravi Karunanayake voted against the Nation Building Tax while MP Lakshman Kiriella abstained. (SI)
