Eleven cooperative rural banks functioning under the Akmeemana Cooperative Society, received deposits amounting to Rs 30.48 million on Sinhala and Tamil New Year Day, according to President of the Cooperative Society Parakrama Seneviratne.

He said that this was a new record for deposits on a single day at the Cooperative Society managed rural banks. One thousand customers who transacted business on this day were presented with bags of groceries worth Rs 500 each.
