Maximum support to graduates from SLFP - G.L Peiris

The Minister of Export Development and International Trade Prof. G. L. Peiris stated that Sri Lanka Freedom Party Governments have provided outstanding services to University students and graduates, which have not been provided by any other government. He said that S.L.F.P. governments opened university and legal education, which was only available to the privileged, to children of ordinary parents and those from rural areas, and also provided jobs for 40,000 graduates who were without jobs for a long period.

He was speaking at a seminar for university and Law Collage students, which was one of the series of seminars organized under his guidance, for voters of the Colombo District Zone 2 relating to the Western Provincial Council election.

This seminar was held at the Mahaweli Centre with the participation of a larger number of Students of the Colombo, Kelaniya and Sri Jayawardenepura universities, the Open University and the Law College.

Prof. Peiris also stated the war heroes were able to obtain many victories under the proper leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. He said "Large expanses of land have been made available for projects on agriculture and other industries in the North and the East. Investors are gaining confidence in this country. The government is spending a large amount of funds to improve infrastructure at divisional level. During the next year around 600 megawattes will be added to the national grid through large electricity generation projects. Therefore it is possible to have new hopes and objectives related to the economy. The government expects to involve Graduates and university students in this regard and these groups have a special role to play. Only Sri Lanka Freedom Party governments have initiated action to allow children from all backgrounds to have access to university and legal education which was restricted to those from privileged classes. There are many justifiable reasons for educated people of Colombo district to vote for the United Peoples Freedom Party. We hope that they would do so".
