Two armed men walked into a private bank in Wellawatta yesterday and kept the bank staff hostage while cleaning out the safe of Rs.13 million, Wellawatte police said.

The duo had arrived around 9.00 a.m. soon after the bank commenced its day’s work. They had taken an employee at gun point and also got the security men to lie down. Thereafter they had tied the hands and legs of security officers. They had emptied the safes and fled the scene before the police had been informed of the robbery.
