Government information news on Dialog Mobiles

Dialog GSM expanded its highly popular ‘SMS news service’ with the addition of the Government Information Department to offer breaking news alerts to Dialog subscribers. The partnership gives Dialog customers the opportunity to receive latest news updates and government announcements from the Information Department direct to their Dialog mobiles.

"We are glad to tie-up with Dialog Telekom to disburse national information to Sri Lankans through SMS medium," said Media and Information Minister Hon. Anura Priyadarshana Yapa. "Access to information plays a key role in the development process of a country and we believe that educating and informing its people is the first step towards achieving this, and this is what we aim to do through this partnership" he added.

Commenting on the partnership, Nushad Perera, Group Chief Marketing Officer of Dialog Telekom PLC, said: "We take pleasure in partnering with the Government Information Department to provide breaking news and other national information to the finger tips of our customers. Mobile devices have become an effective platform for dissemination and consumption of news and infotainment, and we are confident that this partnership will contribute to the dissemination of information responsibly across multiple boundaries."

Information pertaining to national development initiatives, key policy decisions and other important national news will be delivered to subscribers via this new service. Dialog customers could subscribe to this service by typing ‘info’ and sending it to 678. A free three-month trial offer is given to subscribers who register for this service.

The partnership with the Government Information Department adds to the news services already on offer from Dialog Telekom, who was the first to introduce the service to the Sri Lankan market. Dialog subscribers can receive news alerts via Derana, and the introduction of the new service would compliment this highly popular service.
