The most populous district of the Western Province, Colombo, which had the highest number of voters, returned only one woman candidate, Rosy Senanayake, who also topped the UNP list in the District by obtaining 80,884 votes.

Duminda Silva of the UPFA polled the highest in the Colombo district with 165,128, while Tilanga Sumathipala (UPFA) was a close second with 159,603 votes. Udaya Gamanpila polled 116,144. The others elected on the UPFA ticket polled below 100,000 votes.

Former Provincial Minister and senior SLFP politician Prasanna Ranatunga polled 186,338 preferential votes in the Gampaha District.
