KANDY - It has been decided to declare the first week of June as "Food Week" with the objective of encouraging people to join the campaign for growing food plants, said Agriculture Development minister Maitri Sirisena.

The "Food Week" will be observed from June 01 to June 07.

Minister Sirisena made this announcement at a meeting of farmers from Mahaweli Development region at the Plant Genetic Resource Centre, Gannoruwa on Friday 23.

The project will be implemented to face a challenge of food scarcity expected worldwide in the coming years, the Minister said.
