British HC hosts UK-SL Trade and business Entrepreneurs
CBB is one of a number of bilateral business councils established under the auspices of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The membership comprises of Sri Lankan companies interested in doing business with the UK and British companies that have unvested in Sri Lanka.
CBB’s mandate is to promote two-way trade between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom continuing the hatmonious business relationship between the two countries.
The CBB serves a very useful purpose, it offers like-minded business people the opportunity to get together and share their experiences of exporting to Britain and working with British entities. It is the only forum available here in Sri Lanka for sharing such knowledge and hearing other peoples’ best practices. The CBB is invaluable to Sri Lankan companies involved in all forms of business with Britain" said Philip Goodstein, member of the Executive Committee of the Council for Business with Britain.
CBB in collaboration with the British Council highlighted their "sponsor a teacher" project to the membership. The teacher-training project, run by the British Council on behalf of CBB and sponsored by the private sector is in its second year run. The programme aims to upgrade the English language skills of youth entering the workforce by training teachers in learner-centred, communicative methodology through an innovative distance learning model. Over a period of six months, teachers study specially written materials, implement new ideas with their classes and report on these in their portfolio. They attend sessions at Regional English Support Centres led by British Council-trained local mentors who guide, support and conduct classroom observations and provide feedback. At the end of the course, the teachers take the internationally recognised, University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test.
