Schools rugby tournament| — A way out
It is also maintained, that the tournament rules clearly state, that a team found guilty of such an offence, should forfeit points obtained in the match and be demoted automatically to the 2nd segment.
They also accuse that, the SLSRA of which the Principal the Secretary has favoured our school on many occasions before, and also on this occasion, thus compounding matters that finally led to the cancellation of the tournament.
We are a group of old boys (very old boys for that matter) and as we learnt at school, it was to always stand by for justice and fair play, putting our reputation, prestige or whatever behind, for the sake of nobler values.
Sadly, over the years, we have observed painfully that our school authorities are not setting the right example and we have built around us a reputation for browbeating, injustice, boisterousness and above all arrogance, not caring two hoots about fairness for others.
This trend has to be arrested sooner than later, if the school is to restore its respectability and integrity, which is sadly lacking at present.
It is not fair or justifiable to blame the players or the schoolboys, as the environment in the school they are brought up and nurtured, is not conducive at all to expect them to honour values. As matters have come to light, a section of the old boys (not very old boys) are also to blame for this indiscipline and deplorable behaviour and this conduct of affairs of the school.
We, as very old boys of a bygone era, very passionately appeal to the school authorities to voluntarily step down to segment 2 of the tournament, which is the root cause of the whole affair. This will automatically clear the confusion and enable the tournament to go on, which act will no doubt go a very long way to restore our image and set an example to the other schools and the sports world, as a whole.
Will the school be magnanimous enough to sacrifice for the sake of rugby?
