Doctors of the Elpitiya Hospital have sought Police protection following an incident on Saturday where family members of a patient had threatened a doctor with death. The doctors told the Elpitiya Superintendent of Police that  twice earlier too doctors had been subject to threats by relations of patients.

Doctors have alleged that the officers manning the Elpitiya Police Post failed to carry out their duty and this too has contributed to this situation.

The security service provided to the hospital had also been removed recently.
