

‘Peace Dream Cup’ soccer tournament in Trinco from May 1st
A media briefing to announce the all island seven-a-side inter-schools under-19 football tournament, sponsored by the Peace Dream Foundation and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association, under the patronage of the Minister of Co-operatives and Chairman of the organizing committee, Minister Abdul Majeed, to be worked off at McHeyzer Stadium in Trincomalee on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of May, for the ‘Peace Dream Cup,’ was held at the Old Bens Sports Club in Kotahena, on Monday.
The organizers said they expected 50 teams to participate at the tournament and already 42 schools had confirmed their participation.
"The mission of the Peace Dream Foundation is to create models of peace among cultures through sports. Therefore this football tourney would harness goodwill, friendship and understanding among the communities of the country through the universal medium of sports," the organizing committee said in a communiqué.
The teams will be divided into three groups and the team that tops the group will qualify for the knockout stage of the competition.
The champions of the tournament will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 in addition to medals and certificates while the first runner-up will be awarded a cash prize of Rs. 25,000 and medals and certificates. The second and third runners-up will receive Rs. 15,000 and 10,000 each with medals and certificates respectively .
