Rs. 345 mn luxury hotel to be built in Kandy
The Canora Hotels (Pvt) Ltd, with the approval of the Board of Investment (BOI) has decided to construct a state-of-the-art luxury hotel in Kandy under the Sri Lankan Industrial 300 programme, the BOI said.
BOI spokesman told The Island Financial Review that the Canora hotels chain would construct the hotel in the middle of the Kandy town and for that purpose 260 perches near the Kandy Odean theatre had been earmarked. The construction work would commence in this year and the hotel would be opened in 2012.
He said that the Canora Hotels (Pvt) Ltd would invest Rs.345 million to construct the hotel and the hotel would consist of 75 rooms both luxury and semi-luxury and the project would generate around 200 employment opportunities to young men and women in the area.
The spokesman added that the principal aim of the project would be to attract foreign tourists visiting Sri Lanka. The hotel would provide better accommodation to tourists who were bent on seeing the historical Esala- Perehara, cricket matches, workshops and seminars held in Kandy.
