Public servants  to get houses

The Government has decided to construct 850 houses for public servants.

Two plots of lands belonging to the Urban Development Authority – a 14-acre block on Mount Clifford Estate and an eight-acre land at Jalthara in Homagama had been acquired for that purpose, sources said.

The construction cost of the project would be covered by a soft loan of Yuan 160 million given by the Import and Export Bank of China and Rs 600 million allocated from the Sri Lankan government, sources said.

A Cabinet paper submitted by the Ministry of Housing and Public Amenities for the project had been given approval recently, the sources added.
