Minister to the  rescue of Podi Sir?
Although Sri Lanka Cricket terminated the services of B.H. Perera, better known as Podi Sir, he has vowed to stage a comeback to the administration of the sport through the backing of Sports Minister Gamini Lokuge.

Cricket sources told ‘The Island’ that Podi Sir is awaiting the return of Lokuge from abroad to change the decision taken by SLC to sack him.

A former school master of Ananda College, Podi Sir has survived successive cricket administrations over the years despite being branded a Thilanga Sumathipala loyalist. There had been a number of charge sheets against him over a period of time and his services was once terminated by the Vijaya Malalasekara administration in 2001. But he was promptly brought back into office when Sumathipala assumed duties as board chairman in 2003.

Cricket administrators finally lost patience when he held up proceedings at a media briefing recently at SLC headquarters and sacked him after an inquiry.
