Only 36 of 112 GK directors declared assets

Attorney General Mohan Peiris PC yesterday submitted to the Supreme Court an Interim Report containing a list of assets, so far declared by the Directors of Golden Key Credit Card Company Pvt Limited.

The total value of properties known so far to be owned by the Golden Key Credit Card Company amounted Rs. 6 billion.

The immovable properties and the personal accounts of directors are to be valued by an official valuer and their final value will be submitted to Court next Friday.

The Supreme Court said it was necessary to appoint a Committee of accountants and auditors who would examine the list of properties compiled by the Central Bank on declarations made by the Directors of the Golden Key Credit Card Company, and on information received by other concerned parties. The properties were to be listed as immediately disposable, medium period disposable, and long term disposable.

These assets were to be brought into a common account. A list of depositors should be scheduled starting from the lowest range to the highest.

The Court also permitted the request by the Attorney General to open a ‘Dedicated Account’ to deposit the monies realised from the sale of persishable fertilzers owned by the Golden Key. The money to be returned by the Credit Card Holders was to be deposited in this.

Out of the 112 Directors who served in the Golden Key company only 36 had made assets declarations. The others were given two weeks time to declare them. Errant declarants would be penalised. Dr. and Mrs. Kotelawala had made declarations according to the Interim report.

N. A. Bastians appeared with Sudath Jayasundera for the depositors who had complained that their deposits amounting to Rs. 26 billion had not been repaid.

The Attorney General Mohan Pieris PC, appeared with Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne and Senior State Counsel Janak de Silva for the State.

The Bench comprised the Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva, Justice Shirani Tilakawardene and Justice P. A. Ratnayake.
