Pandal for Goddess Kali during Vesak

Could someone please enlighten me as to the significance of erecting a pandal depicting Godess Kali at Vesak? Yes, there was indeed one and it was shown on TV. This act of erecting a Pandal for Goddess Kali has surely been the act of some ignorant people. It proves in the first instance that though many thousands claim to be Buddhists they do not know the fundamentals of Buddhism. In actual fact, those who claim to be Buddhists are Hindus – they do not know the meaning of the first two stanzas of the Dhammapada, in which the Buddha has said that the mind is supreme. Almost every Buddhist temple in this country has a Kovil which they call a Devale. They worship Vishnu (the Hindus consider the Buddha the tenth Avatar of Vishnu), the Hindu God Subramaniam, or Murugan or Kartikeiyan, worshipped widely as God Kataragama. Theravada Buddhism is really observed in the breach and not practiced. It is only a few in this country who diligently practice real Buddhism the essence of which consists of Sila, Samaadhi and Panna.
