Deportation of Channel 4 reporters

I had a look at the relevant news item telecast on Channel 4 in UK. I was shocked at first, but then I had a second look at it. Here are my observations.

1. The video of the camp does not reveal anything incriminating. The people look perfectly happy. They look much more relaxed and better dressed etc. than when they arrived from the NFZ.

2. The woman being interviewed, alleges that her daughter has been taken. However, there is no evidence of rape etc. only a list of assumptions. It is a fact that a lot of LTTE cadres have come out as civilians. They need to be screened.

3. The dead bodies – where are they? why were they not shown?

4. All the accusations are made by nondescript characters (three in all). They only show shadows. These could be anyone especially LTTE agents/sympathisers. There is no confirmation of what is said.

5. As opposed to unsubstantiated statements above, the government has been able to show via video footage (both at ground level and UAV) that the LTTE is shooting its own people. This news does not go on Channel 4. Why? Because it does not support their agenda which is influenced by LTTE supporters.

6. Our High Commissioner in UK made a complete mess of the interview. We should get more competent people in these places.

In my own opinion, the reporters, their company and the UK government should be happy that they were just deported without being tried in Sri Lanka.
