

President Mahinda Rajapaksa left for Jordan yesterday (14) to participate in the G-11 and International Economic Summit. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama and Secretary Lalith Weeratunga.
A press release issued by the Media Unit of the President’s office explained that the International Economic Summit was a non political gathering inaugurated in Geneva in 1971, to effect improvements to the industrial and technological sector among countries incorporated in the G-11.
The G-11 consists of countries of low and middle level income and its president is the King of Jordan Abdulla Al Hussein. It works towards sharing technological expertise among the G-11.
Sri Lanka and Pakistan represents Asia, Jordan represents the Middle East, Tunisia and Morocco represents African nations, Georgia and Croatia on behalf of Europe while Honduras, Paraguay and Ecuador represent Central America.
President Rajapaksa is expected to address the G-11 Summit and would make this visit an opportunity to strengthen bilateral relationship with Middle Eastern countries.
