As the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) AGM has been scheduled to be held on June 11, it was evident that its present Gen. Secretary Maxwell de Silva is to take over as its new President uncontested.
Former five-time President, Suresh Subramaniam, and the head of the present Interim Committee, Janaka Bogollagama, are reportedly not willing to contest for this top spot in national tennis administration which went under an interim administration last August after a bitter rivalry between two parties, led by the Subramaniam and Bogollagama.
Mister of Sports and Public Recreation Gamini Lokuge postponed the SLTA AGM last March following the controversial power struggle.
"I’m not going to contest. But am willing to serve Sri Lanka tennis in any capacity if I’m invited," said Bogollagama, brother of Sri Lanka Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama, to Sunday Island on Saturday (16).
"For the best interest of the sport, I’m willing to avoid any sort of division. I encourage my successor to carry on the projects that were initiated by the interim committee during the last few months," he said.
Meanwhile, de Silva confirmed the nominations have already been sent to the affiliate clubs of the SLTA and he is giving nomination to be the President.
"We expect to work together as a committee this time," de Silva said.
