

Seminar: Whistle Blowing – Who, When, Why & How?
The Institute of Chartered Corporate Secretaries of Sri Lanka (formerly the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators Sri Lanka) will be hosting a seminar on Wednesday May 20th at the HNB Tower Auditorium from 2 p.m. onwards on the timely topic of Whistle Blowing – Who, When, Why & How? Constituting an eminent expert panel comprising former Sri Lankan of the Year MP Wijeyadasa Rajapakse PC, Deputy Solicitor General Sarath Jayamanne and Attorney at law Kandiah Neelakandan and Former Director General Securities and Exchange Commission Attorney at Law Arittha Wikramanayake the seminar will discuss all relevant issues dealing with whistle blowing in order to gain a greater comprehension of this complex subject, prevention and consequences in detail. The topics include duties and responsibilities of Chairman, CEOs, Directors and Officers under the provisions of the SEC and Companies’ Act, Responsibilities Arising under the Laws on Bribery & Corruption for the public and private sectors, Mandatory Provisions under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act and Financial Transactions Reporting Act and related Criminal Offences and Violation of Provisions of the Exchange Control Act, Inland Revenue Act, Excise Ordinance, Excise (Special Provisions) Act and Customs Ordinance.
An interactive discussion is envisaged chaired by President of ICCS Prof. M T A Furkhan FCIS, K Kanag-Isvaran PC and International Management Consultant Ranel T Wijesinha.
ICCS deals with issues that have for long been elusive and sometimes contentious, as the concept of whistle blowing requires a complete understanding especially in the current context of permeating financial scandals and upheavals.
