Alick no more

UNP Matale District Parliamentarian Alick Aluvihare passed away yesterday morning at a private hospital in Colombo after a brief illness. He was 84 years old at the time of his death.

Born in December 20, 1925 at Matale, he had his education at Vijaya Vidyalalya, Matale.

He was a planter and entered into politics following his father Bernard Aluvihare, who after the Matale MP’s sudden death. He entered parliament in 1961 in a by election held to fill the seat that was vacant after Bernard Aluvihare’s death. He held ministerial portfolios in the JR Jayewardene Government and during the 2001-2004 UNP regime he was the minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government. He was a father of four sons and one daughter.

The funeral of Alick Aluvihare will be held at Matale on Saturday (23), a press release issued by the UNP said.
