Just war and terrorism
When he (R.M.B Senanayake) says that terrorism is a ‘method of warfare’and "therefore must be examined in the background of the "Just War’ theory it necessarily means that he accepts terrorism as a legitimate means of achieving political ends"
The above quotation is from Mr Eymard De S. Wijeyaratne’s article in The Island of 13th May. I wonder by what sort of logic he comes to the conclusion stated in italics.
The Just War theory does not allow for the killing of civilians. The use of violence against civilians whether in Sri Lanka Iraq, or Palestine is not justified in terms of the just war theory.
I certainly don’t justify the killing of civilians by the LTTE or the Army. As for the methods of warfare there are prohibitions since the Second World War such as the banning of napalm bombs, Chemical and bacteriological weapons.
