

At the completion of first week of the Otters Diamond Jubilee Cager Tournament involving leading basketball playing teams in the country, there have been many exciting games. Over the weekend, Wennappuwa BC beat Air Force SC by 15 points (78-63) on Saturday at the Otters court in Colombo. The winners were leading 36-28 at half-time. Gavi Cooray with 32 points top scored for Wennappuwa while Virantha Bastian scored 21 points. For Air Force Ravi Dodangoda with 17 points and Asanka Perera with 12 points excelled.
Meanwhile Colombo BC had it easy over Police SC later on Saturday when they won 82-69. Although it was a comfortable win for Colombo, they were tested to the full in the first half as Police took a 36-33 lead.
Jagath Kulathunga and Chamath Danawansha were the leading scorers for Colombo with 19 and 12 points respectively. Sujith Jayantha was the top scorer for Police with 16 points.
On Sunday, Wattala BC after a disappointing start to the tournament gained some momentum with a victory over Army BC. Having led 45-38 half-way through the game, Wattala recorded a convincing 90-76 victory.
Gayan Buddika with 25 points and S. Kodikara with 19 points top scored for the losers while Prageeth Pushpakumara with 21 points and Jeevan Priyankara with 17 points excelled for the winners.
Later on Sunday, Bulls BC thrashed Buffaloes BC by a massive 34 points. Bulls led 38-22 at half-time and won 85-51. Mafaz Mohideen had an excellent game with 31 points while Chameera Rathnayake scored 22 points. For Buffaloes BC Ranga Perera scored 18 points.
