India confirms first case of swine flu
The Health Ministry said the 23-year-old man was identified as suffering flu symptoms after landing at the airport in the southern city of Hyderabad and put in isolation.
He tested positive for the same strain of flu that has killed more than 70 people globally, most of them in Mexico, the ministry said in a statement. He was being treated and no longer has a fever, it said.
The man, an Indian citizen, arrived in the country on Wednesday after traveling from New York through Dubai. Authorities have identified all the passengers who were on the flight with him from Dubai to Hyderabad and were contacting them, the ministry said in a statement.
It said efforts were also under way to track passengers who shared the New York-Dubai flight with him.
According to the World Health Organization, some 7,520 people in more than 30 countries are confirmed to have been sickened by the disease, mostly in the U.S. and Mexico.
