The following, is an extract of what Ven. Mahaelagamuwe Lankananda Thera alias "Kuswala Veda Hamuduruwo" had to say, regarding the successful prosecution of military campaign, against the LTTE.

The Venerable priest says Sri Lankan armed forces had successfully concluded the military operations against the LTTE organisation, led by Prabhakaran, which was considered to be the most ruthless, despotic and invincible terrorist group in the world.

From the time immemorial our mother Lanka was subject to foreign invasions. During the imperial regimes, Portuguese, Dutch and the English did their utmost to subjugate our island nation and make it a part of their colonisation.

However our patriotic ancient kings, the Sangha and the countrymen fought valiantly against the alien forces to protect our age-long culture civilisation and territorial integrity. At last we were successful. We remained united and undivided.

The same patriotism is shown by our present leader president Mahinda Rajapakse. He showed indefatigable will and determination, to withstand, single minded, the immense pressure exerted by the international community to scuttle the military moves of the armed forces against the terrorist outfit. He was courageous to withstand, single handed all sanctions imposed by the international community, the co-chairs and the LTTE lobbies to stop or pause humanitarian operations exercised by the troops to rescue civilians displaced in the war front.

There was protraction of war against the terrorist outfit over the past three decades. Across this phase, Prabhakaran and his group have been assisted in many fronts by the worldwide Tamil separatist movement, The Diaspora. Today LTTE has been defeated in all fronts. They own absolutely no territory in Sri Lanka. Their annihilation has set in. Many thought it was impossible. But today it has become a reality. Of our president, this has been an inspiring act, a message to leaders, in many a nation, East and West, doomed with manifold atrocities of terrorism.

Prabhakaran resumed his terrorist campaign orchestrating as a liberator and leader of the Tamil separatists movement dedicated to win his Great Eelam as the homeland for the deprived Tamil citizens including foreign expatriates. But he went on a killing spree. It included his own men, colleagues, tamil leaders like Amirthalingam and Kadiragamar and political leaders in Sri Lanka and India. Finally he took custody his own men and kept them as a human shield to hide withen them, to face the humanitarian operation launched by the armed forces to free the civilian population entrapped in the fighting zone, since the closure of Mavilaru sluice by the LTTE combatants. All these incidents exposed the despotic nature of Prabha and the heinous crimes perpetrated by him and his outfit.

Under the correct political leadership of our president Mahinda Rajapaksa, the armed forces have almost accomplished their mission of annihilating Prabha and scourge of LTTE terrorism.

The religions leaders, the clergy and the Sangha of this island nation are prepared to accept this reality and support and appreciate the endeavours of the president his government and the armed forces. However the opponents of this entire mission, attributed this entire process as a chauvinistic project of the Sinhala Nation and to pose this nation as a genocidal state which amounts to deliberate extermination of tamil race. But this notion was proved baseless after the complete success of the humanitarian operations when Tamil civilians trapped in the combat zone crossed over to safe zone controlled by the Sri Lankan forces. The alienation suffered by Prabhakaran and his outfit was clear to everyone world over.

The President, withstanding tremendous pressure exerted from various sources from the international community, exposed his diplomacy to the entire world, explaining to world leaders in no uncertain terms that Prabhakaran was not intent in providing liberation to his people and that Sri Lankan government the armed forces and the people are the true liberators of the minority Tamil community.

At this moment the US, UK and many other countries of the international community who opposed the stand taken by the president, are now impressed by the success achieved by the humanitarian operations of the armed forces and the rehabilitation work undertaken by his government to ameliorate the suffering of the Tamil civilians in the North by providing food clothing and temporary shelter for them, pending permanent resettlement.

The President has proved, clearly and firmly to the entire world community, that if there is a will, there is a way. HE has not only secured the minority Tamil community from the scourge of LTTE terrorism, but created an environment for all citizens in this country to live in peace and harmony as envisaged in "Mahinda Chintanaya".

He has dispelled the myth that LTTE terrorism is invincible. Mahinda Rajapaksa and his government mast be commanded for this achievement.
