Police hunt for Sinhala Tigers

Following the decapitation of the top LTTE hierarchy in Mullaitivu, a special Police team has been deployed to arrest two Sinhala youth said to be in the South of the country who have had close connections with the Tigers. Their names and whereabouts were revealed to the Police by a Lt. Colonel of the Ratmalana Transit Camp arrested last week for suspected links with the LTTE.

The two Sinhala youth are said to have played a prominent role in Tiger operations, including bombings, killings and several sabotage activities.

The two youth, who were close associates of the arrested Army officer had tipped off several Tamil Tigers who were lodged in Colombo for various nefarious missions. They had escaped from their lodgings when Police closed in on them.

The Lt. Colonel was arrested following a tip-off by an LTTE suspect after an incident where an LTTE suspect jumped to his death from the seventh floor of a condominium 37th Lane, Wellawatte last week.

Following the interrogation of the Army officer, Police recovered two claymore mines from the house of a Tamil at Athurugiriya.

Meanwhile, Police were checking on the telephone numbers received and originating from the mobile phones of several high ranking LTTE cadres killed and captured at Mullaitivu last week.
