

A suspect wanted in connection with a double murder and several incidents of extortion ransom was arrested yesterday by the Galle Police along with a modified T-56 rifle. Police said the barrel of the riffle had been cut off by 19 inches to make it easy to handle.
The suspect on April 16, last year is said to have shot dead two youth, Gayan Nishantha (26) and Nuwan Chamara Mendis (21) of Ambalangoda while they were riding a motor cycle. Police also recovered a mobile phone and five sim cards from him. The phone, according to the Police had been used to demand ransom money..
He was due to be produced before the Galle Magistrate yesterday. CI Sarath Mendis, IP Dhammika Dias, SI Chinthaka Panawala, T.M.Rihan and Sergeant 2144 Anada were conducting investigations.
