Cricketers Day Celebrations at SSC

The Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC) will come alive this Sunday (24th May) as cricketing legends both past and present congregate to relive and reminisce the good times of cricket in celebrating Cricketers’ Day at the club house premises. The event is organised by the SSC in collaboration with Dialog Telekom, the club’s official sponsor. The Annual General Meeting of the club would also take place at the same time.

Ex-Sri Lankan stalwarts Levers Gunasekara, Bertie Wijesinghe, Ian Pieris, Nihal Kodituwakku, Sarath Silva, Anura Tennekoon, H.S.M Pieris, Sriyantha Rajapaksa, the Wettimuny brothers and present day stars in the likes of Marvan, Mahela, Tilan, Dilhara, Nuwan and young budding cricketers of today are amongst the 100 past and present cricketers who are invited for this mega event.

Four stalwarts of SSC cricket , Mr. C.I. Gunasekera, Mr. P.I. Peiris, Mr. Anuruddha Polonowita and Mr. Bertie Wijesinghe will be felicitated in appreciation of their contribution to the club and Sri Lanka cricket.

The organisers, Dialog Telekom and SSC, have made every effort to make it a memorable day for everyone with special arrangements for the live transmission of the IPL finals on a giant screen. Cricketers’ Day will be celebrated in grand style with two T20 matches being played between SSC Masters and Lanka Cavilers, and Tharanga’s XI taking on Avishka’s XI. Dialog will mark this occasion with special stalls featuring its latest products and services, plus, exclusive offers to SSC members and their guests.

The SSC has a long and proud history of over 100 years and has gradually transformed itself into one of the most respected and renowned cricket clubs in Sri Lanka. SSC’s contribution to Sri Lanka cricket has been enormous, producing some of the finest cricketers the country has seen. Dominating the local club cricket arena, the SSC has won the domestic premier tournament a record 30 times and the premier limited over tournament five times.
