Manmohan sworn in as Indian PM
NEW DELHI, May 22 (UPI) — Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and 19 Cabinet ministers were sworn in Friday, officials said.
Singh is serving a second consecutive term.
While he and the ministers officially took office, an ally of India’s Congress said it was leaving the governing coalition.
Singh’s office said the Council of Ministers would be expanded over the next few days to include more ministers from different states, the Press Trust of India reported.
Officials of the DMK party, based in Tamil Nadu, said they were breaking off with the governing coalition because of disagreements over ministerial appointments, the BBC reported.

The DMK said its 18 members of Parliament would not serve in the government but still would support the coalition legislatively.
Analysts say the DMK decision likely wouldn’t deprive the Congress-led alliance of a majority in Parliament, the British broadcaster said.
