Osteoporosis Control unit idea dropped

Although the WHO has warned that nearly half the population in Asia would suffer with osteoporosis by the year 2050, the Health Ministry has decided against establishing a unit to control osteoporosis as it has not been considered a threat in the near future. Doctors attached to the Ministry think that it has been blown out of context by certain interested parties.

"As it is, we already have a cancer control unit, STD/AIDS, malaria and dengue control units and a Thalassemia Unit. The disease is not a threat anymore so why add to the burden,"authorities said.

Despite being a disease that mainly affects women, mainly during post menopause period, it could be averted or controlled. There are plenty of food items that contain calcium. If children are given a handful of sprats three times a week, plenty of fruits and other food items that include calcium, they would not suffer when they grow old, they reassured.
