National Assembly Sports Committee asks Interior Ministry for report

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Sports Thursday asked the Interior Ministry to present a detailed report to the committee members regarding the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team on March 3.

The committee, besides giving a recommendation to President of Pakistan for quick approval of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) constitution, also expressed the need of holding a special session on the issues relating to the PCB. The committee meeting, chaired by Jamshed Ahmed Dasti, was attended by Pir Aftab Shah Jillani, Syed Inayat Ali Shah, Ramesh Lal, Parveen Masood Bhatti, Tasneem Siddiqui, Ch Saud Majeed, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Syed Tayyab Hussain, Iqbal Mohammad Ali Khan and Engineer Usman Khan Tarakai.

The committee also recommended that the budget for sports should be increased by one percent of the total annual budget to ensure production of quality players from the grassroots level. The ministry of sports gave a detailed presentation on the performance and future plans of the ministry and its affiliated departments.

The committee members demanded for providing jobs to sportsmen in various organisations on regular basis and ten percent women quota should be implemented as laid down in the rules.
