Dear President,
You do not know me. I am one of the millions whom you have not seen nor heard. But I am one of them who have supported you in every way I can, for you to come to this position and later in all your national endeavours.
Now it is high time you look after me. I have seen and heard how you have been surrounded by crooks and thieves and how you were sending birthday greetings to people who went against you and the country; how you were attending to the personal needs of such people. You have never done those for me and I never expected you to. I everyday get harassed at my work place and in society by the people whom you have appointed to high posts whose only qualification to be there was their political inclinations or their personal contact with you. They may be the people who support both you and your opponent at election time.
Did you know the lady who handed over to you rupees one and a half million (according to the announcer) at the function on the 22nd evening? She is like me, not known to you and not getting any special favours from you. Did you know the thousands waiting there in the rain while many unsuitable people were seated comfortably above them with a roof over them? I was also there getting wet in the rain just to show my gratitude to you and our armed forces. But, you did not know me.
I had a problem in supporting you at the last Western provincial council election. After marking "X" against the Bulath Koley, I was all at sea with the numbers below. Fortunately there was a Rana Viruwa and two who were not from your own party.
Dear President, I know you will not be able to raise my salary or pension or to reduce the price of my groceries or reduce the bus fare tomorrow, but there are a lot of things you can do for me even at this moment with one stroke of your pen, to make my life happier and better.
Are you willing and ready Dear President? Even if you are not, I will remain to be with you.
Obatath, Ratatath Theruwan Saranai!
