Dankotuwa launched a
Plate Painting Competition for children recently among the age groups
10-12 years, 12-14 years & 14-16 years. Several children have already done
their paintings, some accompanied by their parents and some accompanied by
their teachers. The closing date for entries is Sunday, 07 June 2009.
Paintings can be done at the Colombo Showrooms and Kirulapone Showrooms.
Dankotuwa organised this competition with several objectives in mind:
promotion of porcelain as a medium to paint on, since it is very popular
in other countries, to further promote interest in art since the history
of painting in Sri Lanka can be traced to the 3rd century BC, and to
introduce using porcelain pigments which require a lot more imagination
because the colour of the paint before firing and after firing are
different.
