License for drug  transportation a must – NDCA

The Drug Control Authority (NDCA) warned it would seize any vehicle transporting drugs without a proper licence to do so. The vehicles should meet required standards for transporting drugs and those which don’t will be fined.and the drugs in the vehicle will be seized.

The Health Ministry spokesman said yesterday (03), that a vehicle transporting drugs for a private drug firm had been apprehended by the Wellawatte Police on Friday (29), with drugs worth Rs. 1.2 million. The licence for drug transportation which they had with them had expired some years ago. They were fined Rs. 40,000 while the drugs in the vehicle were confiscated and handed to the NDCA.

The spokesman said private companies should renew licences to transport drugs annually.
