

Foreign employment agencies petition SC against Bureau ruling
The Association of Licensed Foreign Employment Agencies has complained to the Supreme Court that the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment and its chairman are unreasonably insisting on an insurance policy issued by Al-Haq-ooq, from all licensed recruitment agents, to grant them approval to post migrant workers to Kuwait.
The petitioner Association said that, around 3,000 migrant workers travel per month, but since the aforesaid drastic decision taken by the relevant authorities, the number of recruits have dropped drastically. This will cause an immense foreign exchanges loss.
The petition requested Court to grant the petitioner interim relief by suspending the arbitrary decision taken by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment.
The petition also sought a declaration that the petitioner had been treated unequally, unfairly and had been denied the right to engage in his lawful occupation of choice.
