Leave Udawattakele alone, warns CP Governor

KANDY - The Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said yesterday, he would be very tough on those who cause destruction to the historic Forest Reserve of Udawattakele and its environment.

Governor Kobbekaduwa said that some interested factors both in the public service and private sector are engaged in encroaching the forest reserve of Udawattakele.

The governor said so after a visit to a building site in Udawattakele stating that a contractor who was said to be the husband of a public servant holding high office was clearing a block of land for building official bungalows to public servants.

The governor made order to stop clearing the site with immediate effect.

Governor Kobbekaduwa said that the Provincial Commissioner of land had not given sanction to use the land for building purposes.

The governor further said that the house-builder had not obtained approval of the plan from the Kandy Municipal Council.
