Nestlé Lanka provides food and water to IDPs
On a request received by the Government of Sri Lanka to assist them in caring for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the North, Nestlé Lanka Plc recently committed to provide food & water to the government. At an event held at the Nestlé Lanka Head Office in Colombo on June 03, 2009 a Nestlé bowser was symbolically handed over to Honourable Minister Chamal Rajapakse, Minister of Irrigation and Water Management & Minister of Ports and Aviation to provide water to the IDPs.
The Company has made arrangements for this bowser to carry drinking water to these shelters 4 times a day on a daily basis as there is limited access to clean drinking water in these areas. The IDPs now receive around 28,000 litres of water a day via this service.
Large quantities of dairy products were also provided to IDP shelters recently.
