

Kandy Esala perahera to begin on July 27
KANDY - The Kandy Annual Esala Perahera will begin to parade the streets of the Hill Capital on July 27.
Announcing the commencement of the historic pageant the erection of the 'Kap' at the main devales of Kandy will take place at dawn on July 22.
The perahera within the precincts of the devales which is an offering (pooja) to the guardian devales will continue till June 26.
On July 27 the Kumbal Perahera, the first phase of the pageant will commence. The Kumbal Perahera will continue till July 31 at night.
It will continue till August 25 night.
The water cutting ceremony will take place at the Getambe ferry with the participation of the devale chiefs, on August 26.
This event will be followed by the Day perahera in the afternoon on the same day.
