Akila spins Trinity to victory

Leg spinner, Akila Jaysundara came out with a mesmerizing performance to bowl Trinity College, Kandy to a resounding eight wickets victory against Sri Sumangala College, Kandy in their under-17 division I, inter-school cricket tournament fixture at Asgiriya Stadium, in Kandy on Saturday.

Skipper Jayasundara who put up a terrific performance picked up 7 wickets conceding only 26 runs to bowl out Sumangala for 126 runs in 34 overs.

What transformed later in Trinity’s retort was some explosive stroke-play in which Kavinda Jayasuriya put a blistering 56 not out in just 16 balls, probably the fastest half ton in the tournament so far. Jayasuriya’s blast was nothing short of his namesake master blaster in the national team, where he stuck six hits to the boundary and five over it.

Meanwhile Keheliya Atugoda who made an unbeaten 23 in 11 balls and Niroshan Dikewella with 31 in 25 balls enabled Trinity to sail home totaling 130 for the loss of 2 wickets in just 11.4 overs.

A praiseworthy 49 run opening wicket stand between Janishka Premesinghe and Niroshan Dikweeela followed by a better one for the third wicket which generated 72 runs between Kavinda Jayasuriya and Keheliya Atugoda made the affairs quite easy for the Trinitians in the process.

Scores:

Sri Sumangala College 126 all out in 34.2 overs (Viraj Madushan 40, Mohamed Jiffery 19, Akila Jayasundara 7 for 26)

Trinity College 130 for 2 in 11.4 overs (Kavinda Jayasuriya 56 n.o; Niroshan Dikwella 32, Keheliya Atugoda 23 n.o.)
