The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL), said yesterday that it whole heartedly welcomes the appointment of Justice Asoka De Silva, as Chief Justice of the country.

"We are confident that the Supreme Court under the leadership of Justice Asoka de Silva, will ensure the adherence to the Rule of Law, independence of the Judiciary and that every citizen in the country will have equal protection of the law and be treated alike. The Bar Association, will continue to do its part in this endeavour."

 The BASL extended its best wishes to the new Chief Justice and fullest support and cooperation in the discharge of his duties. 

It requests all BASL members to attend the Ceremonial Sitting of the Supreme Court (Court No. 501) at 10.00 a.m. on June 11, to welcome the Justice Silva.
